Singer Sewing Machine Treadles

A treadle was the mechanism used for running a Singer Sewing machine before household electrical appliances were as common as today. The treadle was pushed on by the operator's foot, or later some designs used a knee treadle. The treadle action was then used by the sewing machine gears to push the material forward and the needle up and down.
