If you are looking for a Singer sewing machine for schools, for a small business, or just for home use on tough fabrics like denim, upholstery, curtains, and webbing, this is probably the machine you want. Reports of problems with timing seem to be lemon machines, so choose to purchase from a company that will replace yours if you get a DOA machine. |
The Singer CG 550 and 590 are made for basic stitching, though they both have some perks over the CG 500. We recommend the CG 550 due to the very reasonable price point and still good amount of features such as 4-step buttonhole function, stretch stitch (see the video above), and free arm option. This machine is stronger and faster than the average home sewing machine.

This machine is not a fully industrial strength sewing machine. The plastic needle holder and plastic bobbin holder are close to deal breakers. Also frequent reports of the timing going off mean a lot of frustrated users. We really recommend purchasing the CG 550 instead.
